Types of Massage in Dubai: Which One Suits You?

Types of Massage in Dubai: Which One Suits Your Body?

If you open a massage menu and every treatment sounds relaxing, choosing one can become surprisingly difficult.

The easiest way to choose between the different types of massage in Dubai is not to memorise every technique. Start with what you want to feel different after the appointment.

Do you mainly want to switch off? Are your shoulders or back tight? Do you feel puffy or heavy? Are you pregnant? Do you want more stretching? Does warmth help you relax?

Once you answer that, choosing the right massage becomes much simpler.

Balinese Massage: A Good All-Rounder

Balinese massage is one of Empress’s core treatments and often a good starting point when a client is unsure what to book.

It is an Indonesian massage style combining flowing oil-based movements, kneading, varied pressure and gentle stretching.

Empress therapists are trained in Balinese massage techniques and receive additional internal training to maintain the treatment and service standards.

Pressure can be adjusted, so the massage may feel deeply relaxing or considerably firmer depending on your preference.

Choose Balinese if you want a full-body massage with a balance of relaxation and muscular attention.

Deep Tissue Massage: For Focused Muscular Tension

Deep Tissue massage is slower and more targeted.

Choose it when your shoulders, back, hips or another muscular area needs more time and pressure than a flowing full-body treatment would normally allow.

The massage can feel strong, but stronger does not automatically mean better.

The therapist adjusts the pressure according to the area being treated and how your body responds.

Choose Deep Tissue if focused muscular work is the main reason you are booking.

Sports Massage: Stronger Work with More Stretching

Sports Massage overlaps with Deep Tissue but includes more mobility and assisted stretching.

It can suit active clients who enjoy firm muscular work and also want the therapist to move and stretch the body.

You do not have to be a professional athlete to book it.

If gym training, running, padel or another regular activity is part of why your body feels tight, Sports Massage may be worth considering.

Choose Sports Massage if you want muscular work combined with more stretching and movement.

Lymphatic Drainage: For Puffiness, Swelling and Fluid Retention

Lymphatic drainage is much lighter than most clients expect.

It uses gentle, rhythmic movements and is commonly booked by Empress clients for fluid retention, puffiness, heavy legs, facial puffiness and post-operative support where appropriate.

The face can be included within a full-body lymphatic drainage session. If facial puffiness is the main concern, the treatment can also be adapted around that priority.

Empress regularly sees visible changes after lymphatic drainage. The stomach may look less puffy, legs can feel lighter and facial puffiness may visibly reduce.

Consistency is important when the goal is to maintain the best results.

Choose lymphatic drainage when fluid-related puffiness or heaviness is more important to you than firm muscular pressure.

Maderotherapy: For Body-Focused, Stimulating Work

Maderotherapy uses specially shaped wooden tools alongside hands-on massage.

Areas such as the thighs, buttocks, stomach, waist, arms and back can be targeted depending on what the client wants to focus on.

Clients commonly choose it for body contouring, cellulite appearance, fluid movement and tissue stimulation.

The treatment feels much more active than lymphatic drainage and is generally better suited to someone who enjoys medium to firm pressure.

Choose Maderotherapy if you want a stronger, tool-based treatment focused on selected body areas.

Hot Stone Massage: For Warmth and Deep Relaxation

Hot Stone massage creates relaxation through warmth.

At Empress, the treatment begins with hands-on massage. The therapist then massages using the heated stones before placing the stones on selected areas so the warmth can remain on the body.

Because there are several stages, Empress recommends 90 minutes for the full Hot Stone experience.

Choose Hot Stone if warmth is one of the things that helps your body really switch off.

Prenatal Massage: Massage Adapted for Pregnancy

Pregnancy changes how massage should be performed.

At Empress, prenatal massage begins from 20 weeks as an internal training and service policy.

The mother is predominantly supported in a side-lying position using pregnancy support equipment, and the pressure is adapted throughout the treatment.

Prenatal massage can continue into the later stages of pregnancy when appropriate, the pregnancy is uncomplicated and the mother remains comfortable.

Choose Prenatal Massage if you are 20+ weeks pregnant and want a treatment specifically adapted around pregnancy.

Foot Massage and Reflexology: When Your Feet Need the Attention

Sometimes you do not need a full-body massage.

Empress therapists are trained in both foot massage and reflexology techniques.

These treatments can be particularly appealing after long days spent standing, walking, travelling or wearing uncomfortable shoes.

A general foot massage focuses more broadly on comfort and relaxation, while reflexology uses more specific pressure techniques.

Choose a foot-focused treatment when tired feet are the main reason you are booking.

Sound Healing + Massage: When You Want a Different Kind of Switch-Off

Empress Sound Healing + Massage is integrated into the full-body massage rather than offered simply as a separate group sound bath.

A dedicated sound healer works alongside the massage therapist using authentic Nepalese singing bowls.

At selected moments, the bowls may also be placed on the body so the vibration can be felt as well as heard.

Each sound healer has her own style, allowing the experience to develop naturally throughout the treatment.

Choose Sound Healing + Massage if you already enjoy massage but want a more immersive sound-led element within the experience.

How Do You Choose the Right Massage?

If you are still deciding between the different types of massage, send the Empress team three things:

  1. Where does your body feel uncomfortable?
Back, shoulders, legs, feet, hips or somewhere else?
  2. What pressure do you normally enjoy?
    Light, medium or firm?
  3. What do you want from the treatment?
Relaxation, muscular work, stretching, warmth, fluid-related puffiness or body-focused work?

That information is usually much more useful than simply choosing whichever treatment name sounds strongest.

You can also check the Empress massage prices before deciding on your treatment and session duration.

Still Unsure What to Book?

You do not need to study the whole massage menu before making an appointment.

Tell us where your body feels uncomfortable, what pressure you enjoy and what you want to feel different after the massage. We’ll help you narrow down the treatment that makes the most sense for you.
