What is cupping therapy?
Cupping is a traditional technique in which cups are placed on the skin and create gentle suction. Instead of pressing into the muscle like a massage, the suction lifts the skin and muscle, which many people find releases tightness that massage alone does not reach.
At Empress, cupping is combined with massage. Your therapist places static cups on the areas that need it, usually the back and shoulders, and may glide cups over oiled skin, then finishes with massage strokes.
Cupping often leaves round marks on the skin. They are not bruises and do not hurt; they usually fade within a few days. Plan around beach days or events if that matters to you.
Cups are cleaned and disinfected after every session.

What happens during your cupping session
Your therapist arrives
She arrives 10 to 15 minutes early and sets up quietly with fresh linen and towels.
A short consultation
She asks how you feel today, about any sensitive areas, health conditions and your preferred pressure.
Your treatment
She places the cups on your chosen areas, checks the suction feels comfortable, and combines cupping with massage strokes.
Aftercare
Drink water and keep the area warm. The cup marks fade over a few days.

Cupping Therapy: frequently asked questions
Does cupping hurt?
No. You feel a pulling, tight sensation while the cups are on, which most people find relieving. Your therapist checks the suction with you and adjusts it.
Will cupping leave marks?
Usually yes. Cupping often leaves round, red to purple marks. They are not painful and typically fade within a few days, sometimes up to a week.
Is cupping combined with massage?
Yes. At Empress, cupping is always combined with massage on the same session, so it feels relaxing as well as effective.
Can I have cupping while pregnant?
No. During pregnancy, please choose our prenatal massage, available from 20 weeks.
What should I wear?
Comfortable underwear. You are covered with a towel and only the area being treated is uncovered.
How long should I book?
60 minutes is ideal for the back and shoulders. Choose 90 minutes to include more massage time or additional areas.
Can my partner have a massage at the same time?
Yes. Book a couple session and two therapists come together. You can each choose your own treatment and duration, with AED 25 off the more expensive one.
What do you bring?
Everything: a professional massage table, freshly laundered linen, towels and massage oil. You only need a quiet space.
Which areas and times do you cover? Do you come to hotels?
We come to homes, villas and hotels across Dubai, with appointments from 10am. The last appointment starts at 9:30pm on weekdays and 10pm at weekends (Saturday and Sunday). For hotel bookings, please check with reception that outside therapists are allowed to visit your room; this is the guest’s responsibility, as set out in our terms and conditions.
